BRazil, right! How amazing this dream is.
SO I skyped my family for the first real time today, it’s been 3 months so it was good to catch up. and i was asked to make a post. What can i post about???
THE DOGS!
The dogs in cambe are ridiculous cause the mayor of the town was just like “I like dogs so i’m not gonna have a pound lets just let them play in the streets”
BOY WAS HE WRONG
There is a dog on every corner man, like they have some sort of business going on. and they walk around the streets in gangs. I”m not even joking, Eric once said that there were dogs following them around the city one night and honestly I wouldn’t doubt him. These dogs are running the city of cambe. They are smart too, they look both ways before they cross the road and they all look strangely the same.
So Tri, if you are reading this, you would love Brazil cause you would never run out of dog :P
but seriously, there are so many dogs everywhere, and chickens too! chickens roaming the street just outside my house, could you believe it?
So thats a little piece of brazil for you, i’m about to go out with some amigos so i’ll try to think of something to post in a few days
Peace
Yup, so the other day I went down to Sao Paulo with my family. I was like 6 hours in the car and we got there early on saturday morning.
Saturday was pretty sweet. We went and met some family in this really really nice apartment that they had. It was decked out with just about everything you can imagine. After this I had some free time cause my sister and mum were getting ready for the party we had in the evening so I took the chance to meet up with Carina(A girl I met on my first day in Brazil) and we got a few trains around and ended up walking around Paulista avenue which is the big main avenue. I think I spoke about it before.
After this excursion I went back to our hotel and chucked on my suit and we were off to the 15th birthday party of my cousin Lara. The thing was crazy man. Imagine a bunch of 15/16 year olds all wearing tuxedos and dresses like they were rocking up to the Oscars… They even had a pretend bar sending non alcoholic drinks. It was hella fancy. Like this thing was bigger than most weddings I have seen and that. They had just about everything. It’s full on ritualistic too like, the birthday girl has her first dance with her father and she dances around in this circle of like 15 of her best lady friends(who all have partners) who are holding candles, as she dances around she blows each of there candles out and when their candle is out (excuse my grammar, i’m forgetting english) they start dancing the waltz with her and eventually everyone is waltzing around and that.
So that party ended at like 4am or somethingridiculouslikethat
So the next day we all woke up pretty late and went for some more lunch at the sweet apartment. After that we hit up the theatre to watch the Adams Family. It was really really really awesome. I’m gonna have to say I liked wicked better but like Adams family was sveeet.
Next we had a family dinner at a really famous pizza restaurant. I’m missing my australia pizza’s though, all in brazilia they are all about these really cheesy pizzas like4 cheeses and stuff I just want some chicken mushroom onion and bbq sauce pizza, whats wrong with bbq chicken? I’ll tell you what, it doesn’t exist in Brazil„„„
Yeah so After dinner at like 10 I was like, hey lovely host family can I go over to my friends house and my lovely lovely host family let me, I met up with Eduardo, He saved me at the airport on my first day in brazil when all my flights got messed up and stuff so I went to eduardo’s and chilled with him and some awesome brazilian guys and girls for a few hours. I had a good time and made it home to leave for Londrina at like 6 am in the morning. Which was way too early.
So right now i’m back to normal life of school, city, gym, sleep, occasional volunteer working and going out for crazy nights on the weekends. I’m really looking forward to my trip to Amazon in May which is gonna be epic. I’ll try to keep yall more updated.
Peace
So i haven’t posted in a while because the time has been flying by and I didn’t realise it had been a whole month since my last post. Carnaval was crazy, like it was a huge street party every night for 5 days, the whole town comes out and dances and we went following this huge truck with huge speakers on it and dancing. We also got to take part in one of the parades they had in the street which was really really fun. The nights were full of dancing and the days were full of beaching, we went to a different beach every day and they were all very lovely. My favourite night was the last night when we went to the official parade area and saw the big floats and costumes and all the pretty colours. There really is nothing quite like it.
After my trip I made pretty good friends with all the other exchange students and I have been hanging round in the city most days with them just having a general good time. I visited some night clubs and bars and parties and everything is really really fun.
Just last weekend I went to Iguacu falls and Paraguay and we got to go in a helicopter all around the waterfall. It was absolutely sweet, and comparing the helicopter ride to the normal walk around the waterfalls (i did both) the helicopter ride is definitely worth it. It gives you a whole different view on the awesomeness of the falls.
Paraguay was crazy too, you wouldn’t want to spend more than a day there the atmosphere was so oppressive with people trying to sell you socks and tasers and those things to pull your nose hairs out. As soon as you walk out of a shop they all swarm you and hustle you to try and buy there stuff. It was hot and noisy and fast but everything was cheap cause there is no tax so I picked up some bargains.
I’m back in Londrina now and still just hanging round like a city kid playing soccer where I can, I think I will start basketball next week which I am looking forward to and in about 2 weeks I am going to Sao Paulo with my family to a really big party, so I am looking forward to that. And in a city that has the population of Australia I’m sure something exciting will happen. I will put some pictures up soon!
So just yesterday I went to the most amazing restaurant I have even been to. It was an all you can eat meat restuarant. But like Yum cha. So we got there. THe chauffeur took our keys… already very cool and then we went into a magnificent restaurant. We got our plates and went to the help yourself food thing… I think it’s called like a bistro… or something… and I put non-meat items on my plate. but once I got back to my table the fun really started. All these waiters with like huge skewers of meat rushed over too our table and asked if I wanted some of there meat. I replied yes to all of them and after about 2 minutes I had a plate completely full of meat. I looked at my non-meat items and they just didn’t look as appetising so I scrapped that idea. THE WAITERS EVEN POURED MY ORANGE JUICE FOR ME. And about every minute another waiter would come with even more meat and ask if I wanted some more. THis place was like HEAVEN. I was in a state of nirvana… I had discovered my calling in life. The meat was going onto my plate faster than I could eat it. It was wonderful! Eventually, after about 1kg of meat… maybe 1.5kg… maybe even 2. I decided it was time to quit since I had a bus to catch to Apucarana in about half an hour. So I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and BAM! What do I find? Floss for your teeth and mouth wash dispensers. HOW CONVENIENT!! These Brazilians think of everything! After cleaning up I went back to my seat and was quite tempted to begin eating again now that the meat had settled down in my legs and my stomach was empty again. But time was running out and I had mexicans to party with, so I left heaven and went to Apucarana. Mexicans are awesome. Especially three of them.
So after the resort my lovely sister was nice enough to introduce me to all of her friends! I went to a few houses and just hung out with people and got to know them and I spent about 6 consecutive days going to the shopping centre. Which seems to be the main attraction of Londrina.
We met up with friends from the resort at the mall. Watched many movies and ate lots of food. They were all very awesome but we had to part ways since they were all going back to there homes which are far away but I now have new places to visit!!! Which is always a good thing.
So my family welcomed me straight away and they were super nice! They took me to all the cool places in Londrina and the food they cook is SOOOOOO GOOOD! BEans have never tasted this good before. We have meat with every meal and rice and beans and meat and rice and beans and it tastes unbelievably amazing.
FUrthermore… THEY HAVE PASSIONFRUIT JUICE. I didn’t even know this stuff existed. They have so many different types of juice. We even got to go to the juice shop in Londrina and I made my own juice, passionfruit and watermelon and it was the best tasting drink I have ever had… I have decided in life that I will open up my own little juice shop and live a happy life of creating juices.
I have been to many awesome restaurants. Where there is lots of meat and pizza. We have pizza often, it’s awesome. But now I have just finished my first week of school. School is very much like school. Our school is veryyyyyy small though, there is only one class in final year, which is the one I am in. Being Brazil, everyone would think that the kids play soccer all day at school or some kind of sport or running activity. You are all mistaken. At my school the children sit and talk, or walk and talk, lots of talking which is something I have difficulty doing. So I think I will try to inspire a game of basketball. Like the gold old days at Hurlstone.
Today my language lessons started.
Tomorrow I will be going on a bus ride to meet some other exchange students… Mexicans! This should be interesting. In about a week I get to go on a 6day trip to an Island call Florianopolis… or something like that… this is for Carnival and I have heard it will be quite an experience. 6 days of partying sounds like a lot of fun for an Australian in another country.
I’m looking forward to it all!
So changing airports may have been one of the scariest experiences of my life because, in a city that has the same population of Australia, the people drive like a bunch of P platers on crack! IT WAS INSANE and they were changing lanes without looking and being crazy and yeah I just went to sleep…. AND WOKE UP AT THE AIRPORT to find out I had missed my flight. Soooo Carina and Giovana and Eduardu looked after me and we went to Eduardu’s house and it was awesome. I FINALLY GOT SOME NON-AEROPLANE FOOD which I scoffed down and I chilled with Eduardu and his friends until I got in a taxi to go to see Freddy. THe taxi ride was my first real experience of a communication barrier as he did not speak a word of English and I maybe spoke 2 words of portugese so it was very difficult to make small talk. Anywho’s I got to Freddy’s house and met Freddy and Ingrid and Lucas and they took me round Sao Paulu in the night time and it was very very very beautiful! In the morning they took me to the airport and finally walking through the departure gates I was all by myself! It felt strange being on the other side of the world, not speaking the language and not knowing anyone. But the flight was heaps quick and eventually I got off the plane in Londrina, the city I am now staying at. I was very nervous to meet my host family but I soon found out that they were awesome and friendly and very welcoming and they took me to a resort called Aguativa where I met heaps of people and went on some slipn slides and water slides and chilled in the pool all day and it was svweeeeeeeeeeeet!
Okay so many of you know that I am now in Brazil and to save time from explain the stories over and over to multiple people you can all find them here in this convenient location.
So it starts as any overseas trip would…. stuck in sydney airport waiting for a delayed flight which ended up being delayed 5 hours but it gave me extra time to meet lots of new exchange students who are all going to Brazil and after 5 hours we finally got onto the flight to Argentina, Buenos Aires.
I slept for the whole thing except for the amazing moments when i woke up with food infront of me! I eat the food and fall back asleep! I wake up again and there is food infront of me but this time it’s different food!!!!! REAPEAT… and eventually I woke up with biscuits in my hair and belly button thanks to Dylan and I don’t know who else cause I slept for 12 hours.
We then missed our flight to Sao Paulo so we had to spend the night in Argentina which wasn’t such a bad thing. In the morning Dylan and I climbed to the rooftop and we were ontop of the hotel for sunrise and it was awesome! Every direction you look all there was were these tall concrete buildings sorta like in Call of Duty, that one… I can’t remeber the map name but maybe it was called afghan? I dunno but it was all like kinda dirty look but still pretty cause they were all so close together and it went on forever… pictures
So’s then we jetted back to the airport in the morning and got the flight at like 730
I slept for the whole thing but this time I didn’t wake up with food in my hair… NICE!
SO now we are in Sao Paulo and we are all excited to go and see our host families. I had one more flight to get to but I had to change airports to this other airport that has a really hard name to pronounce and remeber all i remeber is cohones with a G in it somewhere. So all the other students were getting there flights sorted out since they had missed them because of all the delays and stuff and I was just standing round for a while speaking with some ex-exchange students who were pretty darn cool… there were stray dogs walking into the airport which was strange but each to their own… and eventually we were rushing to the other airport because after about 2 hours of standing around, I was late.
